Moxtek® provides completely inorganic solutions for polarization management in LC projection displays.

The ProFlux® line of wire-grid polarizers includes Prepolarizers (PPL series), Polarization Analyzers (ABS series), and Polarizing Beam Splitters (PBS series). One notable advantage of using ProFlux in projection display is the inorganic wire grid makes the ProFlux extremely durable in the harsh projection environment. Another advantage is its high polarization purity, this creates the ideal polarization state for projection display.

Design Considerations

  • To minimize impact of the polarizer substrate in polarization purity, it is recommended that the active surface (wire-grid side) of the polarizer face the LC imager, whether the polarizer is in front of or behind the imager.
  • The Polarizing Beam Splitter (PBS) is most efficient when oriented such that the traditionally defined s-polarization reflects off the wire grid.
  • Efficiency is defined as Transmission * Reflection, consistent with how the PBS is used in a typical LCOS (or other reflective imager) engine design.
  • We have found that polarization purity is best created and maintained in a reflective LC engine when using a ProFlux PBS versus any other polarizing beam splitter on the market. This is particularly true at very large angular apertures, such as those used in pico-projectors.
  • The inorganic nature of the ProFlux wire-grid polarizer allows for long term use in very high temperature environments. All three of the ProFlux series of polarizers can be used in an environment of at least 200°C.
